I’ve had a few people recently tell me that the following question has come up in interviews that they’ve had with very famous I.T. firms and top notched management consulting firms as well. I wanted to share it, answer it the way that I w0uld if asked just to help get your juices flowing and then ask that you share how you might answer it…and remember, it’s an interview, so answer right off the top of your head.
Question: If you were a fruit, which fruit would you be?
The Idea Business Answer: That’s easy, a grape. First, grapes are communal. They are a part of a cluster, a collective group. I like people, so being well connected to others is important. At the same time, grapes are also individual. You are a part of a bunch of grapes, but you exist as your own grape. So, it’s the best of both worlds in the sense that you are connected to others, but your individuality isn’t lost either. Third, most grapes are grown in very nice places. France, Italy, Napa Valley, California, South Africa, Australia, and Chili are all major growers of grapes. I like warm weather, so these countries, in general, can provide that. Lastly, as implied by the list of countries which grow grapes, if you were a grape, you would have the opportunity to become wine. Think about this…what other fruit receives that amount of care and attention in its life as a wine grape? Sometimes, people will invest years into ensuring that you grow and develop and eventually be the best wine that you can be. Some fruits will be eaten; others will become juice. Some fruits will be put in ice cream…not a bad life purpose in itself. But still, the grape surpasses them all in its final end and life goal…being turned into a delicious wine.
Well, folks, there’s my answer and I’m sticking to it. What do you think?
